Understand your condition
Plain-language guides to kidney stones, BPH, UTI, prostate cancer, erectile dysfunction, incontinence and other urological conditions we treat in Lucknow.
- Stone Disease
Kidney Stone
A kidney stone is a hard deposit of minerals and salts that forms inside the kidney when urine becomes concentrated. Stones can be as small as a grain of sand or large enough to fill the entire collecting system.
- Stone Disease
Ureteric Stone
A ureteric stone is a stone that has moved out of the kidney into the ureter, the narrow tube carrying urine to the bladder. Because the ureter is narrow, these stones cause the classic severe colicky pain.
- Stone Disease
Bladder Stone
Bladder stones form when urine remains in the bladder and becomes concentrated, usually because the bladder is not emptying completely.
- Infection
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
A urinary tract infection is a bacterial infection of the bladder, urethra or kidney. It is very common in women, and in men it usually signals an underlying problem that should be investigated.
- Prostate
Enlarged Prostate (BPH)
Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that squeezes the urethra and obstructs urine flow. It affects most men as they age.
- Urinary Symptoms
Blood in Urine (Haematuria)
Haematuria means blood in the urine — either visible (red or cola-coloured) or found only on a urine test. It is a symptom, not a diagnosis, and always needs a cause to be identified.
- Cancer
Kidney Cancer
Kidney cancer, most commonly renal cell carcinoma, is a tumour arising from the kidney tissue. Many are now found early and incidentally on ultrasound done for other reasons.
- Cancer
Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer usually begins in the lining of the bladder. Most cases are detected while still superficial, when they can be removed endoscopically and controlled with bladder instillations.
- Cancer
Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is a tumour of the prostate gland. It often grows slowly and may cause no symptoms for years, which is why PSA screening and examination matter after the age of 50.
- Male Health
Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is the consistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory intercourse. It is common, treatable, and frequently the first sign of a treatable medical condition.
- Male Health
Male Infertility
Male infertility means difficulty conceiving due to problems with sperm production, quality or delivery. A male factor is involved in around half of all couples struggling to conceive.
- Kidney
PUJ Obstruction (PUJO)
Pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction is a narrowing where the kidney joins the ureter, blocking urine drainage. It is usually congenital and may be discovered in childhood or in adult life.
- Kidney
Hydronephrosis
Hydronephrosis is swelling of the kidney caused by urine that cannot drain away. It is a sign of an underlying obstruction rather than a disease in itself.
- Male Health
Hydrocele
A hydrocele is a collection of fluid around the testis causing painless scrotal swelling. It is common, harmless in most cases, and easily corrected with day-care surgery.
- Male Health
Varicocele
A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins that drain the testis, similar to varicose veins in the leg. It can raise scrotal temperature and affect sperm quality.
- Paediatric
Hypospadias
Hypospadias is a birth condition where the urinary opening is on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip, often with a downward curve. It is corrected surgically in early childhood.
- Male Health
Phimosis
Phimosis is a tight foreskin that cannot be retracted over the head of the penis. It is normal in young boys and usually resolves with growth, but in adults it can cause pain and infection.
- Reconstructive
Urethral Stricture
A urethral stricture is a narrowing of the urine passage caused by scar tissue. It obstructs flow and, untreated, can damage the bladder and kidneys.
